I haven’t done a book post since 2018 and, to be honest, I haven’t read nearly enough since then. Before the pannyd, I was probably going through a book every 2 weeks. After I stopped commuting, (and even during the pandemic), I just did not read. This list of books I’m about to speak on have been read since 2018 but before 2021, (I believe), and I’m only including the books which I really enjoyed or ones which are super popular that I had a different opinion on.
Sleep by C.L Taylor – very suspenseful and well written. I managed to guess the ‘baddie’, but defo a good read.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris – my usual genre of book is thriller, mystery, murder-who-dun-it. I’m aware I’m massively late to the party here and after a SHIT TONNE of people recommended this to me, I decided to read it. Oh my gosh, I am so thankful I got my head out of my ass and did read this because it literally had me hooked from the first page. I’ve never read anything so beautiful yet tragically awful all at once. Honestly, you HAVE to read it. I also read the sequel to this one called Cilka’s Journey which I enjoyed equally as much.
VOX by Christina Dalcher – this book had so much potential as the storyline is so topical and actually bangs. But my good sis Christina did not execute which was such a shame. 99% of the book is very descriptive and slow and then all the action unfolds at the final 1% which makes everything super rushed and far fetched.
The Power by Naomi Alderman – I feel the same way about this book as I did VOX. It had so much potential but I just did not feel like it delivered. I felt like I wanted a deep dive into the characters more and see how these female powers could be used. I think they’ve adapted it for TV so I’d probably go with watching that as opposed to reading the book.
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides – this book is incredibly well written and compelling. When I tell you, I did not see the plot twist coming. 100% recommend.
This year I’ve read some really great books which I’ll post about in the New Year. Until then, I have some fun posts coming up about where I am currently…
