Island Life: Nevis’ Best Beaches

I had meant to post this much sooner after having returned from Nevis, but it turns out I’m not built differently from anyone else and I got Covid. Thankfully, I was pretty fine with it, (just a really bad cold situation), but I have been feeling a bit meh in general which I think was driven by the isolation. Nonetheless, I am better and I am back with a little rundown of my fave beaches in Nevis. This is partly for info but it also gives me an excuse to reminisce and dream of sunnier and warmer climes.

The first stop is Cades Bay and most specifically Chrishi Beach Club…

This was my Mum and I’s first time visiting Chrishi Beach Club. My Mum is desperate to head straight to Chrishi for their Lemon Drop cocktail when we return to Nevis. We visited on Christmas Eve so it was fairly quiet but I can imagine this place being lively in the evenings, especially with the live music and singers that they have. It’s a super bright and polished place with some fun features like the Love Shack bar and the Love Swing looking onto St. Kitts. The water was quite choppy with rolling waves when we visited but the beach stretches far beyond the club so perfect for a beach walk. A sun lounger is free if you buy food or drink at the club. The cocktail menu here is really original and there’s something for everyone. My Mum and I had a cocktail each with lunch which came to ÂŁ72. For some reason their website won’t load but find their insta here, (they’re very responsive on DM if you have any questions/want to book).

Next on the list, (and this has been my favourite beach since I was a child), is Oualie Beach…

Oualie Beach, (pronounced ‘wally’, it means ‘land of beautiful waters’ which was the original name for the island as a whole), is part of a larger hotel resort. Even so, it’s never overrun with people and you can always get a sun lounger. I’m not sure what the rules are exactly here, but even when we haven’t bought drinks, no one has kicked us off. The water is the calmest I’ve seen on the island and laps gently on the mixed golden and black sand, (Nevis is a volcanic island). It’s also super shallow which should reassure even the most nervous swimmer. From the water, you have a perfect view of both St. Kitts and the lush green Saddle Hill. My Mum and I came here on Christmas day when we bought 2 margaritas, (those bad boys were strong!), and it cost about ÂŁ18 for both which is probably the cheapest you will find on the island.

Oualie Beach is also the point where you can get a water taxi over to St Kitts in 10/15mins for XCD$50 (approx. ÂŁ13). So you could spend the morning in Oualie and hop on the taxi over to Reggae Beach for the afternoon and still make it back to Nevis for dinner. Find their website here.

The final stop, and probably the most popular, is Pinney’s Beach…

(Excuse the lack of pictures on this one, it was a mad cloudy day and we got rained off the beach).

Pinney’s Beach is probably the most well known, popular and liveliest beach in Nevis. This is mainly because this is where the fancy dancy Four Season’s Resort is. If you’re not brave enough to try and cross the line into the resort section, there’s plenty of sand left for us peasants seeing as this is the longest stretch of beach. To rent a sun lounger is US$5, (approx. ÂŁ3.50). The water is gentle but I always find the shore a little rockier than others. There are a myriad of beach bars like Turtle Time, (they do the best nachos and veggie spring rolls!), Lime, and everyone’s favourite, Sunshine’s.

Sunshine’s is basically a Nevisian institution. It is always a vibe with music playing, people eating, drinking and just liming. Sunshine himself, (I think his real name is Llewellyn), is often there delivering plates of food, drinks and having a good time chatting with guests. My Mum and I had lunch here which came to about ÂŁ28. There’s no specific website for Pinney’s but you can find Sunshine’s here.

Honourable mention for Pinney’s too is the Belmont Estate shopping plaza which is just up the new, (pothole free), road from the beach. It’s a brand new little spot with a liquor store, perfume store, jewellery shop and more. You could easily have a day on the beach and walk up to the Belmont for a little duty-free browse for a respite from the heat.

There are other little beach spots in Nevis, (duh, it’s an island), but these are my 3 favourites and the ones with the most going on. My next mission is to head to St. Kitts and experience the beaches there – don’t worry, I’ll bring you guys with me.
