The first time I went to Ibiza was in 2019. It was my first ever party holiday and it was a holiday to coincide with receiving our final degree results: it was either party to celebrate or party to drown our sorrows. Looking back, I really do not know how we managed to do 5 days in Ibiza unemployed & broke. We had a great time and wanted to go back the next year but that year was 2020. After 4 years since the first trip and a year of planning, last week I flew back home, a broken woman but full of happiness, joy and memories.
We had a mare with our flights out to Ibiza. Our original flight got cancelled so we were rebooked for a flight 3 hours later that ended up being delayed by another hour, meaning when we got to our hotel, it was a mad dash to get changed, down 2 shots each and head out to Ushuaïa for Calvin Harris. We spent our night on the Playa d’en Bossa side and found our fave club of the whole trip, Swag.
The next day was spent recovering on Cala Salada. There are 2 sides to this beach: Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta. Cala Salada is rocky, with some small jellyfish in the water but easier access to facilities and sun loungers, whereas Cala Saladeta is sandy with jellyfish free, gentle waters. The only issue is that it’s a ‘virgin’ beach with no sun loungers and it’s a walk to the other side for facilities. It’s also a bit busier because it is that bit nicer. There are pros and cons to both but you can easily walk between the 2. Whichever side you go to, make sure you have a plan for getting back. There is no service for, (literally), miles so calling a cab isn’t an option. I would recommend walking to the main car park where there’s a free bus shuttle to the nearby leisure centre. From there, you’ll get service to call a taxi. There’s no real schedule to the bus so you might have to just wait it out.
That night we went out on the San Antonio strip and went a little too hard, too fast and ended up calling it a night quite early. On the Sunday, our girlband was complete as our 4th member joined us. We chilled by the pool at the hotel before getting ready for dinner at Mint by Mambo. I’m going to do a separate post for the dinners we had at Mint & Bambuddha because they actually deserve it. For now, the only thing that was disappointing was the sunset because of the cloud covering the sun.
You guys know me, it’s not a holiday without being in, near or on water so I was super excited for our boat trip. We spent our Monday day frolicking on private islands and the beaut Formentera waters. We felt so well looked after the whole day with drinks and snacks included. The trip is run by the loveliest couple – it was like being away with super cool parents. They actually live on the boat doing charters during the summer and then living their best lives in the winter just sailing about. I always love meeting people with the courage to live an alternative lifestyle – there is genuinely so much more to life than a 9-5 desk job, living for the weekends and annual leave. I highly recommend this trip which you can find here.
That night we went back to Bossa and, of course, to our fave club Swag.
Tuesday was the day I had been dreaming about for 4 years… It was Kisstory. We spent the morning getting ready, listening to tunes, and getting hyped up for the day ahead. We arrived to our bed at O Beach, ordered our first of many jugs of sangria and I prepared to be glued to the dancefloor like I had been 4 years prior. Don’t get me wrong, it was still a super fun day but truth be told, I found Kisstory to be a tad disappointing. The DJ that I remembered from the time before was no longer on the decks and the difference was palpable. The music was definitely geared towards a white crowd and I didn’t hear many ‘old skool and anthems’ which is the whole premise of Kisstory. Anyways, I was excited to go back to Swag that night to have a proper final wiggle but there was a change of plan.
The next morning we woke up and, with it being our final day, our bodies just knew we were done. Exhausted and sad about leaving we packed up and headed to the airport. I have never had holiday blues as intensely as I have had from this trip. We literally spent those 5 days laughing and just having such an amazing time. I’m super grateful for the group of girls I got to go on this trip with… Same time next year?
