If you follow my socials, you’ll know that I tend to review the places I stay in very quick reels or vids. I very rarely bring it to the blog because, for me, this blog is like an online journal and I’d like to remember the experiences as opposed to where I stayed unless it was somewhere extraordinary.
I’ve never considered spending money on changing my flight last minute because of a hotel, but Dar Sofil really had me ready to risk American Express coming for me, so I guess you could say this was pretty extraordinary…
First things first, the physical building itself is stunning. It’s that classic Arabic architecture with perfect symmetry, huge doors and arches. The owner and architect are one in the same and I would love to see their other buildings because this is truly beautiful! It’s not just aesthetically pleasing, but so well thought out. From the side entrances as to not disturb other guests if you return back late, to the strategically placed relaxing nooks. It’s set in the midst of some pretty lush grassy areas with a tennis court toward the back of the pool too. There’s a spa downstairs where you can arrange hammam and massage treatments directly with the hotel.
The hotel has 4 rooms in total, so really only max. 8 adults, (it’s an adults only hotel!), at any one time. That means no fighting for sun loungers, crowded pools or just generally too much public interaction. It also means that the time and attention of the staff is almost all yours and you can really feel the difference. We felt sosoSO well looked after for the duration of our stay – nothing was too much to ask and there was always someone around, ready and willing to help with a request.
The room rate includes breakfast which is served on your own patio table when you’re good and ready. Everything in the breakfast spread is made from scratch, with fresh ingredients, that very morning. We didn’t have lunch or dinner at the hotel but I imagine it’s delicious.
Whilst it’s just outside of Marrakesh, it only takes about 25mins to get to Marrakesh centre which the hotel can arrange for you with their driver for ~€10. As mentioned, there are only a few rooms so might take a bit of flexibility to make sure you find dates where the hotel has availability. I honestly cannot recommend this hotel enough, I would go as far as to say it’s the best place I’ve ever stayed, not just for the beautiful architecture, but also the relaxing atmosphere and attentive staff. I would say to do all the sightseeing and exploring of Marrakech whilst staying in a riad in the centre, then head to Dar Sofil for a few nights of straight rest and relaxation.
You can book your stay at Dar Sofil on booking.com or directly on their website here.
